organiseerde WARP (acroniem voor ‘Wase ARtistieke Projecten’) een
tentoonstelling in Sint-Niklaas met als titel ‘Tricksters’.
Een trickster is het Engelse
woord voor oplichter, bedrieger, schelm. Iedereen kent er wel een, denk ik. Het
is ook een archetypische figuur die in verschillende culturen onder
verschillende gedaanten in mythes, legenden en verhalen verschijnt. Zo kennen
we de Noorse god Loki en bijvoorbeeld ook onze eigen Wase Reinaert de vos.
Stef Van Bellingen
vroeg me een tekst te schrijven over Tricksters. “Iets vanuit de psychologie of
zo?”, citeer ik hem niet helemaal letterlijk. De tentoonstelling met loeders
als Patrick Hamers en Reinaert aan de ene kant en kunstwerken aan de andere
kent, vraagt iets anders dan een droog stuk.
Hoewel Reinaert soms voorgesteld
wordt als de Vlaamse held die de bezetter (de Franskiljon of den Hollander,
kies maar iets) een ferme loer draait – een guerrilla op zichzelf, is die dat
niet. Hij neemt de machthebbers soms heel brutaal in de maling maar politiek interesseert
hem geen zier. Hij is gewoon een schalkse schurk waarbij de internetbedrieger als
een schooljongen oogt. Met het Reinaert-epos en al die andere Tricksters in
gedachten schreef ik onderstaande tekst.
OVER DE LEPE VOS EN
ZIJN VELE BEREN

lezer zich graag in zijn lepe trucken waarmee hij de gulzige beesten met hun
eigen lusten vangt.
Ik vraag me af of
Willem die Madocke maecte, de schrijver van het Epos, de lezer niet gewoon een
spiegel voor hield? Hij vermaakt ons met de domheid van de anderen alsook het
genot van de ingenieuze vos?
Willen wij niet
liever Reinaert zijn?
Wat bindt die vossen
en de tricksters?
Hun mooie praatjes,
zegt u? Ze bakken zoete broodjes en smeren stroop aan de baard. Ze weten wat je
hart (en dat ander orgaan) begeert.
Maar vergeet niet dat
de bedrogene belazerd wilde worden; zonder jou is de trickster nergens.

rust. Helaas is het knap lastig om het ticket naar het paradijs te verwerven.

Och, God, het vlees is
zwak en misschien is de hemel ook maar een belofte.
En daar komt de
trickster.
Hij of zij danst om
de twijfel heen en belooft – al was het maar voor even – de hemel.
Hij of zij draagt vast
een titel; Reinaert kleedt zich deftig aan ook al zijn het enkel woorden in een
prachtige lay-out dat met een klik op het computerscherm verscheen.
Tenslotte, u weet dat
